Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology is an advanced wastewater treatment method that combines biological treatment with membrane filtration. In Sri Lanka, MBR systems are being increasingly adopted to improve water quality and manage wastewater in both urban and industrial sectors. This technology is effective in removing organic matter, bacteria, and suspended solids, producing high-quality effluent suitable for reuse in irrigation and industry. Given Sri Lanka’s focus on sustainability and water conservation, MBR systems offer a compact, energy-efficient solution to the country's growing wastewater treatment needs.
