While the longer time spent undercover can provide law enforcement with useful information and proof, they also can cause bigger risks to the undercover agent or detective agency in India. There is another possibility, which is that the shorter assignments might not be as dangerous but they will not give the law enforcement authorities a wide enough perspective.
