Lexapro is the brand name of the medication escitalopram. It treats depression and anxiety by increasing the amount of serotonin in your brain. A hormone that helps regulate mood. Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily in the morning or evening. If you are using the liquid form of this medication, carefully measure the dose using a special measuring device/spoon. Do not use a household spoon because you may not get the correct dose. Also, you may experience symptoms such as mood swings, headaches, tiredness, sleep changes, and brief feelings similar to electric shock.
